Biography:

Zhou Taitong, a graduate with a Master's in economics from Shanghai Finance University, and a senior economist, was born in Yongchun County, Fujian Province, in December 1952. He is currently Vice Mayor of Shanghai.

Zhou served successively as manager of Tobacco and Liquor Co. of Huangpu District, head of the Finance and Trade Office of Huangpu District, the Governor's assistant of Huangpu District, director of Huangpu District Economic Commission, No.1 vice director of Huangpu District Foreign Economic Office, Vice Governor and Governor of Huangpu District, Party secretary and vice director of the Restructuring System Commission of Shanghai Municipality until Feb 1997, when he became vice secretary-general of Shanghai Municipality, Party secretary and vice director of the Restructuring System Commission of Shanghai Municipality. He served as vice secretary-general of Shanghai Municipality, director and Party secretary of the Restructuring System Commission of Shanghai Municipality since March 1998 and was elected Vice Mayor in Feb 2003.

Zhou is in charge of labor and social security, medical insurance, administration of industry and commerce, quality and technical supervision, administration of food and drug, civil affairs, district affairs, complaints and social stability. He serves as liaison with Shanghai Politics and Law Commission.
